Scotch Whisky — Why It Comes From Here
Scotch is tied to Scotland by law, but its geography is more interesting than five flavour regions on a label. Tax law pushed distilling underground and then back into licensed businesses; ports and railways changed fuel and trade; one small town once held more than thirty distilleries; Spanish and American casks changed maturation; and some modern distilleries still connect the autumn barley harvest directly to the bottle. This map follows the places that explain how Scotch became Scotch.
