A three-day mountain route across the Polish Karkonosze, built around two very different ridgelines. Day one climbs from Karpacz through the historic Wang church and Mały Staw to Śnieżka. Day two moves west to the waterfalls, Szrenica and the glacial Śnieżne Kotły. Day three drops back into the forest for Chojnik Castle. This is a route for people who want the landscape, but also the human layer: old mountain huts, borderland architecture and the long history of tourism in the range.

Begin at one of the Karkonosze's strangest cultural landmarks: a medieval wooden church moved from Norway to Karpacz in the nineteenth century. It works as more than a photogenic start. From here the built-up resort falls away quickly and the route begins to feel like a passage from settlement into the high mountains.

Mały Staw, Karkonosze, Poland
The bowl of Mały Staw gives the first clear lesson in Karkonosze geography: steep glacial walls, dark water and a historic hut sitting directly in the landscape. Samotnia developed from an older building associated with guarding the pond and its trout. Instead of replacing the original structure entirely, successive generations enlarged it, leaving a rare visible continuity in mountain architecture.

Śnieżka, Karkonosze, Poland
Finish the first day on the highest summit of the Karkonosze. The exposed top is a natural border point and a place where weather can change the character of the walk within minutes. The summit is useful as a travel-guide anchor because the panorama explains the next two days: the long ridge to the west, the deep valleys below and the cross-border shape of the range.
Day 2 · Morning
Szklarska Poręba, Lower Silesia, Poland
Start the western half of the guide with the Karkonosze's most dramatic waterfall scenery. The gorge creates a sharp contrast with the broad ridge walking that follows. This is also a useful reset between the Karpacz and Szklarska Poręba sides of the range: two resort towns connected by the same mountains but offering distinctly different approaches.

Szrenica, Karkonosze, Poland
Climb back above the tree line at Szrenica. The summit and its long tourism history make it a natural gateway to the western ridge. From here the route becomes less about one summit and more about moving through an open high-altitude landscape toward the glacial cirques.
Day 2 · Afternoon
Śnieżne Kotły, Karkonosze, Poland
The twin glacial cirques are the geological climax of the route. Their near-vertical walls make the Ice Age history of the range visible without needing a museum or interpretation panel. The building above the cirques also recalls the long history of mountain tourism here: an early shelter was later replaced by a large mountain hotel and eventually adapted for broadcasting.
Day 3 · Morning
Sobieszów, Jelenia Góra, Poland
End with a shorter forest walk to Chojnik, a castle set on a granite hill above the Jelenia Góra basin. After two days spent looking down from the ridge, Chojnik reverses the perspective: the mountains become the horizon, while the final stop shifts the story from natural history toward the human borderland that grew beneath them.
