A three-day route through the industrial landscape of Upper Silesia. Day one reads Katowice through workers' housing and the post-industrial culture zone; day two goes underground in Zabrze; day three follows the older lead-silver mining and water-management system of Tarnowskie Góry. The point is not to collect industrial monuments but to see how mining shaped housing, engineering, urban form and regional identity.
A three-day road trip down the spine of the Kraków–Częstochowa Upland. The route starts among the northern castle ruins, crosses the limestone landscape around Mirów, Bobolice and Góra Zborów, reaches the monumental ruins of Ogrodzieniec and finishes in the Prądnik Valley at Pieskowa Skała and Ojców. It is designed to make the 'Eagle Nests' idea legible as a landscape rather than as a checklist of isolated castles.
A four-day road trip built around the unusual combination that makes Lubuskie interesting: revived wine culture, lakes and forests, massive twentieth-century fortifications and a landscape shaped by the German–Polish border. The route begins in Zielona Góra and Zabór, moves north through Łagów and the Międzyrzecz Fortified Region, then stretches west to the transboundary Park Mużakowski and the destroyed old town inside Kostrzyn Fortress.
A five-stage pilgrimage across the Kii Peninsula on the Nakahechi route, linking forest paths, oji shrines, Kumano Hongu Taisha, Koguchi and the final descent to Nachi.
Ronda to niewielkie, urocze, andaluzyjskie miasteczko położone nad przepaścią — białe domy stoją na krawędziach głębokiego wąwozu El Tajo, który rozdziela starą i nowszą część miasta. Łączy je monumentalny Puente Nuevo, most o wysokości 98 metrów i największa atrakcja Rondy. Zapraszam na super szybki spacer, taki w sam raz, aby w godzinkę zobaczyć co najciekawsze, a potem w spokoju wypić filiżankę kawy lub kieliszek wina.
In wartime Zurich, Cabaret Voltaire opened at Spiegelgasse 1 while Lenin lived farther along the same street. The proximity is documented; a personal encounter is not.
Day 1 · Morning
Nikiszowiec, Katowice, Poland
Begin with housing rather than a mine. Nikiszowiec makes the social architecture of industrialisation visible in courtyards, brick facades, shops, church and streets designed as one coherent workers' settlement. That makes the rest of the trip easier to read: coal was not only extracted underground; it organised everyday life on the surface.
Day 1 · Midday
Muzeum Śląskie, Katowice, Poland
Move from a workers' estate to the former Katowice coal mine, now occupied by the Silesian Museum and the surrounding Culture Zone. Much of the museum architecture stays low or underground, allowing the old mine shaft structures to remain the visual anchors. It is one of the clearest examples of the region converting industrial infrastructure without erasing its silhouette.
Day 1 · Afternoon
Giszowiec, Katowice, Poland
Compare Nikiszowiec with nearby Giszowiec. The lower buildings, greenery and different street plan show another answer to the same industrial-era question: how should a company house a large workforce? Putting both settlements on the same day turns architecture into an argument rather than background scenery.
Day 2 · Morning
Sztolnia Królowa Luiza, Zabrze, Poland
In Zabrze, the story moves from urban form to mining infrastructure. The Queen Louise complex combines preserved surface buildings with underground routes and the drainage adit system. It is a good place to focus on logistics: ventilation, transport, pumping and drainage were as decisive to industrial mining as the coal seam itself.
Day 2 · Afternoon
Kopalnia Guido, Zabrze, Poland
Guido was founded in 1855 by industrialist Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck. Today the descent makes the vertical scale of mining physically understandable. After seeing housing, museum conversion and drainage infrastructure, the underground workings complete the picture with the machinery, confined spaces and depth around which the whole industrial city once operated.
Day 3 · Morning
Tarnowskie Góry, Silesian Voivodeship, Poland
Shift the timeline backward in Tarnowskie Góry. The UNESCO-listed lead-silver-zinc mining landscape shows that Upper Silesian underground engineering has a history much older than the nineteenth-century coal boom. The site is especially important for its water-management system: kilometres of drainage infrastructure turned a persistent mining problem into an engineering network that also served towns and industry.
Day 3 · Afternoon
Sztolnia Czarnego Pstrąga, Tarnowskie Góry, Poland
Finish by entering the historic drainage system from a completely different perspective: by boat through the Black Trout Adit. It makes the UNESCO story tangible. What looks on a map like abstract hydraulic engineering becomes a long, narrow underground corridor built to make mining possible above and around it.
